Get The Look straight from the Under The Gunn: Graphic Ponytail

Gregory Patterson’s favorite look from Episode 1: The Graphic Ponytail

“We wanted to create a look reflective of the construction in this garment. Not only is this pony easy to re-create at home but it adds an element of surprise to your over all look.” ~Gregory Patterson

Step 1: Prep/Foundation

Begin prepping for this style by spraying blow out spray serious non-stick light hold hair spray all over. “I chose blow out spray because of it’s work-ability, light hold but still allows you to secure the hair into a ponytail, it also gives great shine & controls frizz”.

This look is great as a “second day” hairstyle. If you have any oil at the roots, poof faux dry dry shampoo and massage into the scalp to absorb any oil or residue and refresh your roots.

Step 2: Blowout/Style

Once you’ve prepped, it’s time to create the pony.

  • Triangle: start using the arches of both eyebrows, with a tail comb direct the section to the crown of the head. Repeat on the other side. You should end up with a triangle (the point is at the crown) secure out of the way.
  • Using a smoothing brush, Gregory recommends a Mason Pearson, gather remaining hair into a clean ponytail. Your ponytail placement is where ever you desire.  “I like to use the cheekbones as a reference point and place the ponytail at that same level.”  Secure the pony with an elastic bungee.
  • Next, back comb the the triangle section, using textstyle dry texture spray at the root to assist in holding.Once you’ve lightly back combed the entire section, smooth over the section guiding the hair back towards the already secured ponytail. Pinch the triangle section at the top of the elastic and secure the ends with a bobby pin or two.
  • Wrap the remaining hair around the bungee to conceal the elastic and secure the ends underneath the ponytail with a bobby pin.

Step 3: Finish

Smooth the ponytail with a flat iron to polish the ends. You can use a small amount of mane tame soft pomade on the sides of the ponytail to keep the sides sleek and help define the triangle on top. Set your look with after blow strong hold finishing spray.
